I cannot believe it has been 4 years at HGH. Before I moved into HGH I didn’t have a lot of independence skills. I relied on my parents all the time. It was very hard for me to move into a whole new place. I would cry the first few months at night and go to my parents house every weekend. But after a year or so I got used to it and started loving it.
I have learned to really love HGH and now HGH is a place I call home and my roommates and other HGH houses I call friends/family.
A few independence living skills I have learned at HGH are…
- I know how to cook a few more meals for myself’
- know how to advocate for myself better
- Chores get better everyday
- Learned how to take care of a dog
- Attending social events and stepping outside my comfort zone
- Self care Laundry, cleaning etc
So this is a reminder even if we are scared to try something new you never know that it could turn out great and life changing. And get a whole HGH family out of it and people who support you and love you and understand you. You could learn things that will help you out in the future if you ever want your own place one day.
